Well, i took a drive to yepoon and did some tiling. Just a shower this time. Managed to get 2 walls done, but that was in between stuffing around and having to drive into rocky to get the right type of glue. I thought i would have forgotten how to tile, but after a while it came back to me and i was slapping them onto the wall. As usual i got the damn glue everywhere… i think i get that from my dad. 
Been listening to Silverchair lately, they arnt too bad. Managed to find a great music video webpage where you can download video clips. Ive got about 7 now, they fly down at around 50k/sec at the uni.
Managed to get my copy of Mandrake 9 downloaded this morning, checked it at the uni around 7:30 am, and it was down. Took arounjd 3 days, but i guess the mirrors where bogged down since it was only recently released. I tried to install it under vmware, but it has issues… major issues. Like it doesnt like the default filesystem that is allocated to partitions, and for some reason the graphical installation fails and when you do it with the text install you cant see half of the options… *sigh* i guess i wait for a patch to come out.
Been pondering again lately, being around friends is cool, but i also like my space. hrmmm more could go here, but my eyes are almost falling out im that tired… later… later
right, im off, got lots to do tomorrow… gotta mark some more damn assignments… hrmmmm running out of time *eeeekkkkk*

hrmm, played some LAN games today. Start at around 10:30 and went through till about 7pm. Was great fun, played Warcraft 3, BattleField 1942, Quake 3, UT 2003, etc etc. Also copied a few MP3′s off a mate, he has like 11gig of them on his drive, so i went through and copied what i wanted. Now ive got a heap of new tunes to listen to. yay!
Going down to yepoon again tomorrow, gunna help my mate tile his shower. Should be ok, im thikning if i get down there early we can make a bit of a dint in it.
Ive got contract work running out my butt at the moment, so much of it. Marking, Unit coordination, Exam paper writing, Mac programing… geez i could go on and on. Should be good when the money starts coming in.
I found a neat little app for OS X that lets you chaneg teh color of the doc background. Its really neat. At the moment i have it set to a transparent yellow color and i like it.. Now they just need to randomise / automate the process so that it cycles every so often. that would be cool.
The final season of the X-Files started tonight. Only 9 weeks till it ends. Hrmmm. Ive already read a bit of what happens and apparently it is a bit of a let down, well not a let down, but most people will be expecting a lot more from it. Either way, i dont mind, i think its great. Gotta start collecting the DVD sets.. the first series box sets are getting kinda scarce round here. I should lash out the $100 and snap one up before it gets impossible.
Bought the new silverchair album – “Diorama” yesterday, also got Monsters INC on dvd, damn that movie cracks me up. Im a sucker for computer generated stuff… *sigh* plus its got some real neat features on the DVD about Pixar.
Righto, i think ill finish this and go listen to some tunes.

damn i was tired today, i dunno why. I need to get to bed early and get back into the swing of things.
Sent an email to the lecturer i was marking exams for saying it took me about 10mins each to mark the exams, anyway, he sent one back telling me that it takes about 20mins each and he will make a contract for that.. sweet! so i get about double the money.. damn that is cool
I have been working on a new website, but i cant make up my mind what to do. Its hard, i need a host that supports php or somthing to make it database driven. Its too hard.. *sigh* hrmmm i guess i should just stop whinging and do it..
Ive almost got the VPN program ready.. and ive already got ideas for the next version which will make it a heap better. I figure i will get this first version done with the basics for the uni, then put the next version out as a generic thing. So i get the credit for it and stuff, that way i can use it.
Im looking at nitro cars again at the moment, man i want one still. $800 they cost, and would be great fun i reckon. Im just wondering if i should just lash out and buy it or whether its going to be one of those phases… hrmmm I hate being one of those people that thinks deeply about every decision… grrrrr

Went out for a feed of thai food last night. My thai friend came back up with me from sydney when i came back last. He is going to help me do the webpage project that we did a proposal for (if they ever let us know when to start). Anyway, a friend of his that i had net when i was at uni was down from Mackay for the weekend, so we all went out. Wasnt too bad, had a bit of everything and it was neat.
The person that owns the restaurant was good friends with them all so we went around there again for lunch today, and once again it was great. Makes me hungry again thinking about it.
Anyway…. I need to find more work. I kinda feel like im wasting my time with the phd now. I mean its going to take 8 years to do, and ultimately wont make a difference at all. Im starting to think i should put it on hold and concentrate on getting a decent job, one that i want to do. hrmmm damn i hate that… now im starting to wonder what im doing..
I just get a feeling that i should be working now, getting myself some experience and getting around, not jsut sitting back at Rocky doing my phd and working part time. At the moment i cant see what the point of it is… I need to think long and hard about it…
Damn i feel like ice cream… hrmm i think i might go get some and go by the uni to print some stuff out… yeah, that will do, driving is good for thinking.

saw my ex just a little while ago at the uni, she is still studying and is back in Rocky after an unsucessful time at Brisbane… hrmmm
Told me about little Alpha (dog i bought her when we were together), apparently he was hit by 2 cars. Run over him, he was basically dead. They took him to the vet and amazingly he survided, even though his eye poped out and they put it back in, broken jaw, brain damage. Doesnt walk straight, walks in circles, etc etc… poor thing, and he still isnt toilet trained and bites like crazy… kinda makes you wonder about putting pets down. When is the right time? I mean you gotta wonder… hrmmm somthing to think about.
Got some more marking to do – computer graphics this time, should be cool. Just gotta get the others done this weekend then i will start on these.
Oh i met my ex’s FIONCE (how do you spell that?), anyway, i typed it in capitols cause she emphasised it when she introduced us LOL. I thought that was funny. Neither of em seemed that happy and i was just sitting there trying not to smirk too much…

Got a rip of the xXx soundtrack today, a mate of mine bought it so i thought id ‘sample’ it. Its not too bad, a lot of heavy stuff on it but its pretty damn good.
Im off to a LAN at the end of this month. Another mate is having one at his place, a few of us are getting together to play some games. Havnt played any LAn games in a while and should be good to have a bash. Probably be playing some UT2003 (the demo is out and it rocks!) and some war3, and whatever else we feel like at the time
Put in a timesheet today for the tutoring i do, $70 an hour isnt bad going really for tutoring a subject. Anyway i hadnt claimed any time yet so i thought id do it. bleh boring stuff really…

Not much is going on.. found this cool link: Australian Public Toilet Map. Yep, if your ever lost in Australia with internet access, and you need to find a public toilet, then this is the place to go.. kinda weird that.. i wonder who gets to be the webmaster for that site, what an important job, making sure the toilet map page is up to date and current.. would be a full time job im sure..

Went and saw The Crocodile Hunter movie today and hrmmm… ummmm… yeah… It was as i expected, good for kids and American people to have a laugh at how us ‘aussie’ all live , but kinda boring. I mean i started out by laughing here and there, but then in the end its more silly then anything and i found myself thinking “hrmmm should i pretend to laugh… should i be finding this funny?”. Dont get me wrong, im a bit of a fan of the mad steve, and he used to be great on tv, but these days i think he is getting a little commercialised (spelling?) and playing it up a bit. The storyline was just weird, and in parts it is a documentary and then it flips to this weird storyline about spies, the CIA etc etc, the back to the documentary part… My guess is that he wanted to do a movie, and the ‘big wigs’ have said “yeah steve, lets do one, you can do you crazy conservation stuff and well take care of the rest”, so steve goes about his business and the writers throw some weird spy crap in there and wammo – instant kid flick and good for making money in countries were they all love the ‘aussie with the cork hat and rides kangaroos to work’ image..
hrmm anyway, enough of that… its not too bad, ive seen it, paid my money and helped conserve some animal somewhere….

hrmm, Fire for OS X is really buggin me… ive used it all the time under OS X, but it seems to be going nowhere… i downloaded the yahoo messenger client today and its got full webcam support, somthing that fire isnt even close to getting.. anyway.. i played around a bit and found out i can use my digital video camera as a webcam.. very neat…. but it only works under yahoo messenger so far… and people will need the proper yahoo client to view it… hrmmm i need a decent webhost so i can upload with ftp using CoolCam… hrmmm somthing to look in to..
Saw my ex today for the first time in like … hrmmm… 6 months (rough guess, its probably longer) I didnt even think she would talk to me, but gave a wave and smiled… hrmm weird lol… i was chatting wiht someone at the time so i just said hi back…. lol kinda funny…
Bought a quickbooks books for my mum today, shes a rank accounting program wiz… i saw this book and asked if she wanted it… so ill have to get off my lazy butt and send that to her…
The new VPN client was released for OS X, so my vpn client front end for OS X will need to be updated… seems they want two seperate installers for both versions which seems weird to me as the new client handles all versions of OS X… i think i need to have a chat with them about it…
Go some peachy ideas for web stuff last night… gunna start whacking out php / coldfusion / asp web stuff, just generally stuff… its cool…

another day, another popen(…) and fflush( ) statement… *sigh*
yup, ive figured out the little problem with NSTask and NSPipe…. and the solution is….. get ready….. DONT USE THEM… yup… thats my solution… so now ive got some fancy cocoa code with a chunk of straight C in the middle of it… but it works… and thats all im worried about. Seems the easiest way to start a process and send data to its stdin stream is by using straight C calls… totally weird… maybe theres a way using cocoa/objective C calls with the apple API, but im damned if i could find it. As far as i can see, NSTask is only good for creating processes with command line arguments, and NSPipe is only good for reading from the processes stdout stream…. try using an NSPipe with stdin and tell me how ya go… go on.. i dare ya to… *sigh* maybe apple will make it easier later on or somthing…
even the all knowing google couldnt find me an example of using NSPipe with stdin stream… it seems my world is falling apart… i didnt think id see the day when the all knowing google would be stumped.. sending back information that does contain my search words, but really does not relate… but thats enough of that.. we shall never speak of it again.
Been marking assignments.. essay / short answer style questions, i thought it would be tough, but it appears that the questions must of come straight out of the book as most people have similar answers….
I think ill buy myself a webcam tomorrow… would be handy to play with and it actually relates to my phd study.. so ill write the bugger off in tax next year

hrmmm, well things are going ok… sent off the proposal for the website today, read through it like 5 times and was happy with it so its gone.. now i wait and hope they go for it… *fingers crossed*
run into a brick wall with the vpn thingy… seems that getting an NSTask and NSPipe to send info to an interactive terminal app isnt as easy as i thought… grrrrrr… no ive got to find another way to do it.
I found out today that my new mobile can work with yahoo messenger… damn cool… so ill make good use of it while my free wap/gprs is still going..
Also installed windows XP service pack 1.. and surprisingly it didnt frig anything up. It seems microsoft have added a new ‘feature’ where you can get rid of microsoft programs and use different ones if you want, i.e. if you dont want i.e. it will ‘hide’ it and let you use some other browser… the thing that annoys me is that it doesnt actually remove the shite, but just hides the damn shortcuts from the desktop/quicklaunch/start menu… what a crock.. what i wouldnt give for a program that will uninstall all the shit that comes with windows xp.. i mean who really wants windows movie maker installed by default with no otpion to remove it… sheesh…

whew, its been a few fast packed days. Went and saw some people about a possible webpage job, things are looking good. Just gotta get the proposal done and drop it in to them, im planning on doing that by tomorrow.
Been working on the uni VPN thing, found out yesterday that the way i was authenticating was a bit dodgy, so ive scrapped that idea and going with something else now. Im confident the new way will work. Other then that i have the spawning off a new task to run the client which is funky, i just gotta read up on the inter process communication, but i had a little look earlier and i think it will be ok.
Went and saw my phd surpervisor today.. damn ive been slack with it… i havnt donw squat in the last 3 weeks, bu wih everything thats been going on its kinda tricky. I figure i need to concentrate on the job side of things for a while.. then i can worry about the phd side of things.
I think ill go check out a movie tonight, got a mate whos dropping by so that might be cool. I went and saw “the sum of all fears” and “signs” on the weekend. “The sum of all fears” is inda long winded, like the story goes on and on and then suddenely the bomb goes off and the baddies are killed and the credits roll… hrmmm “signs” on the other hand was way cool, totally unexpected what happens in it… and i must say it is a bit scarey… he he
righto… ive gotta be off and get some food, Jerry springer is almost on and we all know that that is a MUST SEE tv show..
