Got to uni today and had to setup the access grid for some people here at the uni. That went ok, no real worries. Straight after that had to take a tute. The tute is slowly getting less and less students in it but i guess that can be expected getting near the end of the term and all.

Got a call form a dude to go and have a look at some ‘vb / vb script’ which wasnt working. Sooooo i head over the other side of town and find out that the app is actually written in QBasic for DOS, and of course there is no source code. As soon as i saw that i knew there wasnt much i could do. Anyway, the dude was trying to run an old DOS app under windows XP. Now in theory XP should handle that ok using its fancy schmancy compatibility mode thingo… in reality however we all know its a different story and really changeing the compatibility settings did dick all…. great… so this thing would run and jsut present a blank screen. it didnt help either that another XP machine accross on another desk ran it fine. Gotta love XP.. In the end i put it down to a weird laptop video card problem. *shrugs*

oh!.. the dude there had a 17inch Acer laptop… big and ugly are two words that come to mind. Nothing like the 17inch powerbook. *sigh*

After that me and melanie went food shopping. That was cool. gots the foods and left. I got nice buns and peanut butter!

Got back to uni around 4 and have been readoing stuff for the lecture tomorrow. Also gotta do up a simple webpage for my sister to show her how it works.

Did a quikc search for jobs, sadness again. There are lots of jhobs under the IT section, but unfortunately im not qualitfied for most of them. Keep looking i guess….. and find part time work in the mean time to pay rent… bleh bleh

So b2 has a few little ‘bugs’. basically its a piece of unmaintaned shit. I went to post my ‘fixes’ in the forum and found out you have to login to post anything, so frig em, ill jsut post them here for my own refernece.

To import blog stuff from blogger, just follow the steps they say in the blogger-2-b2.php file to get a heap of files that contain your blogger posts. Then you gotta do a few things to the b2 mysql database tables.
1) Change the int(10) value to BIGINT(20) for the post ID fields, in both the wp_posts (ID, post_author, post_date, post_content, post_title, post_category) and b2comments tables.
2) Do a search for ‘intval’ (without quotes) in the blog.header.php file and b2template.functions.php file. In both files, comment the line out thats says somthign like p$ = intval(p$).

So basically you gotta find every occurance of intval and get rid of it IF it is changeing the post ID value to an INT, we dont want this anymore cause we are using BIGINT.

*sigh* thats it – i think – this thing could still be dodgy.

Well here it is, a new site and new blog. Im using some strange b2 blogging tool, which is kinda ok but has some weird things about it.

Ive managed to convert all my old blogger stuff over as well after some dicking around with the b2 scripts and database. Seems b2 isnt actively worked on anymore, so ill see how it goes.

At the moment its using the default look, sooner or later ill change it over to something new. Id say before long ill write my own publishing system, but until then this will do.

Ok, in the next week or so i will be transferring my blog over to www.lifeinthegeeklane.com. Im not too sure which blogging tool im going to use as yet though. Greymatter looks ok and so does b2 and then i guess i could alwys jsut stay with using blogger, but it doesnt have allow comments so probably not. *sigh* decisions decisions.

I just registered my first domain name – www.lifeinthegeeklane.com
*shrugs* Found a web host that costs $100 per year (AUD) and includes free domain name registration, 200mb storage, unlimited email address, unlimitiied subdomains, ftp, ssh, php, mysql etc etc. Ive always wanted one so i thought bugger it, and did it.

So chances are this blogspot blog will be converted over soon. Whenever i hear back from the site about the order. I can make cool discussion forums and stuff too! woohoo!

Friday… oh friday… *sigh*
Sitting at uni again, trying to get my hungry self motivated. Me thinks i will go get some food then maybe my brain will work.

Spent yesterday fiddling with damn video wall stuff, of course – support for macs is bad, so its a matter of sorting through newsgroup posts and trying to apply other unix/linux tips to the mac. As you can probably guess it didnt work, i dont kow enough about the whole unix configure / make process *sigh* get weird errors telling me the source code has butt munch or somthing bleh who knows.

I got another ichat a/v buddy to video chat with! Read about it here. isights are nifty… *sigh* technology rocks.

Still work hunting… gotta go see some chick at the employment place soon. Oh the joys…

righto, bugger this im hungry…

Just signed up to livejournal so i could read a friends journal, and i have to say its got to be one of the most pain processes ive had to go through. Sure its got a few features that are ok, but the layout and preferences layout totally sucks. Want to edit a particular preference? the only way i could figure was to basiccally click mindlessly until you find it, things you think would be under the journal menu are under the manage menu and things under the manage menu should logically be under the journal menu…. bleh.. im sticking with blogger…
The preferences are one big scrollpage full of check boxes and text fields, whats with that? Surely dividing the preferences up into sections would make the whole thing a LOT easier to use and also navigate around.

Went shopping today wif little melanie, she had to get some stuff for her family at christmas which was cool. As guessed, the shopping place was PACKED full of EVERYONE… *sigh* but thems the breaks. Took a lotto ticket in the 18 million draw…. actually that would have been drawn by now… maybe im a millionaire

Got Jedi Knight – Jedi Academy on friday… been playing it… and addicted to it… its sweet running around with a light sabre… bugger using the stupid guns and bombs and shit.. ive got a light sabre! so i will use it!!

Dunno whats on the cards for tomorrow, i REALLY gotta do some PHD stuff… *sigh* Gotta sit down and code some java shite…

Been doing up my resume *again*, think ill apply for a part time job… somthing different and will get me away from having to do damn marking at the uni…

bleh… Should get my america trip (wwdc) refund early next week, thank god… that thing will probably all go straight to paying off my damn credit card…

Helped melanie put a color in her hair! I think i missed my calling as a hair dressor, cause quite frankly i rock!

righto.. time to go see what my beeping MSN window has been saying the last 5 mins while ive been typing…

Went to the dentist today to see what the go is with my gum bleeding when i brush my teeth. The dude was cool, he is from overseas somewhere but thats another story. He had a looky at my teeth and said they were really good and clean *woohoo or me!*, then he got this ‘tool thing’ with a small ball on the end and told me that he was gunna run it around on the gum near my teeth. So he did this with each tooth and they all started bleeding! Looked damn aweful but he said it was cool. He explained the differnet types of gum diseases and stuff and said he didnt think i had one cause usually it only happens with badly cleaned teeth. So he was a bit confused as to why it was happening. So he sent me off to get a bloodtest to check everything out. he says that sometimes when your getting over and illness or somthing that your gums will bleed like that and stuff. So off i went and got a blood test. Gotta wait now for them to call me back.

Seems weird… Like he said, he didnt think i have some gum disease cause my teeth are well looked after… *shrugs* wait and see…

On the other side of things, the Apple Paris keynote is on today! 6pm Australia time!. Ive found a URL to a webcst so i might hang out at uni and watch it. By the soud of the rumor sites its going to be a good one with possible laptop and other updates!..

I also got the latest build of panther and it is slick as! very very nice, and speedy…

back at uni, just had lunch. Been working on php web stuff all morning. I figure ill make a site and show some people and maybe that will convince them to give me money

Kinda tired for some reason, dunno. Thursday already – week has gone fast. Seems i spend the first 3 days of the week doing silly uni stuff. Then spend the last 2 days doing stuff im meant to spend the whole week doing *sigh* doesnt make much sense.

Back in rocky again. Got back yesterday arvo. Trip back was ok, chatted a lot of the way. Got back and everything was ok at the flat which is good. Got my notice about my ABN in the mail.. woohoo!

Went and saw some people about a webpage today, been playing around with php this arvo, i reckon ill whack together a test site for them to play with to fully explain the whole ‘content management’ thing.

Got a nice letter from the police today, photo of me going 72km in a 60km zone, the funny thing is that the 60km sign is like 200 mtrs behind me in the photo.. chances are if they took a picture of me from behind they wouldnt see break lights either – i tend to gear down to break when i get to new speed zones – saves the break pads. I guess i should hit the breaks or gear down earlier… bleh… $100 and 1 point off my license… dunno what will happen considering i have a NSW license and it was in QLD… oh well wait and see.

Went and have a play/perv at the new G5 today. Nice… very very nice… *sigh*, i still like my powerbook though, jsut gotta wait for panther to come out. Theres been so many damn betas releases in the last week, ive given up trying to keep up with it. The latest build doesnt have an XCode build so its no use to me, ill wait for the next one.

I cant find the damn poem i wrote… i saved it somewhere, im jsut not entirely sure where… oh well it will turn up.

I think ill reread “if life is a game, these are the rules” again. Its a great book… i like it. Most of the stuff is common sense once you read it, but its cool anyway.

Im in a good blogging mood tonight. Been having good chats with Augustina lately. Hadnt talked to her in what seems like years. Ifs funny how you can do that…. *shrugs*

Thursday already!, been trying to sort out tax stuff. Mum is doing most of it, i just cant seem to get my head around it…

Tried to install XP onto a friends computer yesterday, but for some reason the mouse would jump all over the place and it was a pain in the arse. So i put ME back on it. Spent most of the day stuffing around with it and ended up no different from when i got it

Got a call from Melanie last night! woohoo!, its good to hear her voice again. Her accent stands out more when i havnt heard it for a while Her and her brother are still in canberra, looking round, apparently her brother was sick so she went for a wander and gave me a call Cant wait to see her again on Sunday.

Not much else is going on, watched the Mundine fight last night. What a crock of shit. He is a doodlehead. I was going for the american dude hoping he would lay mundine out.

bleh… anyway, im about all out of typing for the moment. Might go wander round and find somthing to do. oh! Wrote another poem last night after talking to Melanie, ill put it up here if i remember…

Back home again, Drove to Brisbane last thursday,spent the night with friends which was cool. Melnaie and i went out to eat with some friends (Rebecca, Mark, Di and some other chick that i dont remember the name of). Left brisbane early friday morning and dropped melanie off at the airport then drove the 4 or so hours back to inverell. Drove through Ashford on the way back and picked up my cousins who wanted to come to Inverell for the weekend.
Saturday went and watched nahtsan and grant (my cousins) play soccer. Was bloody freezing over at the field. Had macdonalds for lunch – grant shouted me a chocolate sundee
Sunday we went to Askford to drop the boys home, also went to some ashford talent quest shindig. Was somewhat boring with a few people that did more then one thing. There were about 30 acts overall, but after about 5 acts of people sining and playing piano and dancing – the attraction kinda wears off.
Monday – Went down the street and got some food. Then took granny back to her place (she stayed the weekend at our place as well). Come back home and cleaned up mums mac computer archive (tried to anyway). Thats about it. Oh! I also applied for an ABN and got one online I can now go about finding work to do without having silly tax worries and stuff.
Not sure whats going on tomorrow – will wait and see. Got an email form melanie saying she got to sydney ok and they were having a pretty good time. I think they would be in canberra about now – although im not sure.
Heading back to brisbane on saturday to pick melanie up on sunday morning, then back to rocky.
Will probably do my tax tomorrow – now that i think of it – since mum is around to help.. jsut gotta find my group certificate that seems to have gone missing…
