PulpFiction Lite Vs NewsFire
Im now running PulpFiction Lite and NewsFire at the same time to determine who will claim my ‘best rss reader’ award. So far, PulpFiction has a lot of black marks against its name, so NewsFire doesnt have to do much to take the crown.
PulpFiction Lite just seems too complicated and doesnt do the basic things that well. For example, when i have a lot of saved feeds, it starts running dog slow. Each time i start it up i cant do anything else for about 5 mins until it has downlaoded and checked for new feeds. I find this kinda annoying, it shouldnt be this slow.
Also, it keeps losing/finding unread feeds. It displays that i have so many unread feeds, yet if i sort by unread i get nothing. WHERE ARE THE UNREAD FEEDS???
So yeah, I think PulpFiction went for too many features (that i never use) and for some reason its dodgy on the basic things of rss feed reading / speed.
NewsFire is fast, simple, with no bloat and unecessary ‘features’ and its only in beta.
Even after using NewsFire for just over a day, you really see the shortcomings of Pulp Fiction. Not totally bagging Pulp Fiction, I just prefer the smoother interface and consistant functionality of NewsFire. Can’t wait till its 1.0
One more thing
I’ve always thought about doing an RSS gadget for when Tiger is released. All the RSS stuff is open source so to learn wouldn’t be too hard. Even found a site with an example:
http://ranchero.com/cocoa/rss/
Could I? Would I? and most importantly, Should I?
Bear in mind, folks, that you’re talking about PulpFiction Lite, not PulpFiction.
Hi Eric, thanks for the comment. Yeah im talking about the Lite version, i was under the impression that the Lite version was just a cut down version of the full product. That being said, i assume that the full version would have these same small problems as the Lite version. Is this not the case?
I used the Lite version because i dont have the need for the many features of the full version, and im just a little dissapointed in the few little niggly things.
Are you saying the full version does not have these weird small bugs?
cheers.
