I feel bad …

So yesterday afternoon, i got home and was unlocking the front door. A small gecko ran along the bottom of the door right as i opened it so i quickly closed the door again in the hopes that it wouldnt get inside.

Right as the door closed, the gecko got half caught under the rubber thing on the bottom of the door. At the time i didnt realise it and tapped the door hoping it would run away.

After a while i realised that he was actually stuck. So i slowly opened the door again and got him unstuck. It was then i realised that his eye was sticking out :|

Yep, somehow i had managed to get the gecko caught under the door and popped his little eye out. It was still attached to his head, but was sticking out about twice the size of the other one.

I gave him a little tap on the back, and he slowly walked off. Didnt scamper like a normal gecko would, but still managed to wander away.

I wonder how a gecko with one eye hanging out adapts to the world around him, or whether he has just fallen prey to the ’survival of the fittest’ theory.

Anzac Day 2006

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

Google Calendar

Pretty nifty, Google now have a pretty cool web based calendar app that anyone with a gmail address can use.

Take a look at calendar.google.com

It’s very iCal looking, and seems to support RSS feed based calendars, calendar sharing, scheduling with other people, iCal sharing, etc etc.

Doesnt seem fully supported with Safari yet, not sure if thats a google issue or a safari issue, oh well, works fine in firefox.

Google make cool stuffs.

Parallel Worlds

So im currently reading Parallel Worlds by Michio Kaku, its an interesting book. Its basically about the current research into string theory and such. It talks about the universe and how it was formed and what exactly it is.

Theres some discussion about time travel and parallel universes and stuff. Its interesting.

Live – Songs from black mountain

So Live have released a new album. Apparently the worldwide realease date was today, but how silly of me to actually think shops in Rockhampton would have it.

I went out and visited Big W and Sanity, but had no idea what i was talking about. The lady at Big W was useless, the girl at Sanity at least attempted to look it up on the computer but her only response was “Nope we dont have it”.

Great… so remind me again why we are meant to buy locally?

So yeah, i went home and downloaded it. Yep, downloaded it, *gasp* call the police… I tried going out to buy it, noone had it. So i figure if i want it on the ‘official’ release date i just have to download it.

Ill buy it online in the next few weeks and get it posted. Either way in the end ill pay for it.

bleh…

PhD Update

So im back in Rocky and trying to get back into the swing of things.

Ive had a few meetings with a professor at the uni about my PhD and how its shaping up. At the end of last year, before i went to the US for the internship i was feeling a bit lost in it all. I had been researching collaboration / groupware for a long time, had a heap of information but wasnt really sure what exactly to do with it.

Atfer meeting with the professor it dawned on me that i wasnt concentrating on a specific area. He suggested i look at the emergency services area and how they coordinate emergency planning and response.

Thinking about this, it makes sense. The emergency service needs to coordinate groups of people over a large scale. How they do this efficiently and effectively is an area that the current work ive done could easily fit into.

Going with somthing like this means i have a specific area to concentrate my study on. Instead of having a lot of information and not sure whare to apply it i can now focus on a particular area.

Im hopeful again.
