Is it just me, or have doctors become really impersonal?
Maybe its just the doctors i go to?
Last doctor i went to was at the Richardson Road surgery. I phoned up and made the appointment and got there on time. Sat for around 10-15mins and was called in. The doctor was a middle age asian guy. Good thing about his was i could actually understand him, unlike the last doctor i went to.
Anyway, i sit down and he asks me what the problem is. I tell him i had the flu and i still have a nasty cough. Also have cold sore on my lip and sores up my nose. He listens to my breathing then looks in my throat then turns to the computer and spends the next 5 mins clicking away on the system most doctors seem to use now.
Out prints a perscription which he hands to me, then he says for me to take 2 pills every day. There was then an uncomfortable pause… i thought there was more coming.. until he said “that is all”. I thanked him and stood up and wlaked to the door. He stayed at his desk typing away at something else. I let myself out.
Actually reminded me of drenching sheep. All the sheep (people) are mustred into the pens (waiting room) and are then single file fed into the narrow walkway which leads to the farmer with the drench gun (doctor). Sheep (person) gets to the farmer (doctor) who then sticks the drench gun into the sheeps mouth then pushed the sheep through. The sheep is let out into the pen again (waiting room) then finally let go.
The whole process from pen (waiting room) to farmer (doctor) then out again takes maybe 5 mins, most of which is spend with the farmer (doctor) fiddling around with the drench gun (computer).
Its somewhat depressing. These people who we trust with our health seems so unapproachable.
I did notice though that a new doctor surgery has opened at the Glenmore centre jsut around the corner. I hope i get sick again soon so i can go try them out. Maybe they are better…
