Finished reading iWoz, written by Steve Wozniak last night. I picked the book up a few days before i left Rocky to come home to Inverell.
The book starts out pretty slow but does come through with the goods. Ive always known Woz was involved with Apple from the start, but i never really realised what exactly he did do. Reading about how he created the Apple I, Apple II, the floppy drive, etc amazed me. The guy must be one smart cookie thats for sure.
The second part of the book is a lot more interesting then the first in my opinion and the last 2 chapters close the book off well.
Well worth the read for Apple fans. Non Apple fans might not be as interested, but i would encourage them to at least give it a try… Woz did pioneer the personal computer as we know it.

Ive started reading Parallel Worlds again. Its a book i bought when i was in the US the last time and started reading it over there. I kind of stopped reading it when i got back to Australia but its a really interesting book so ive been putting some time aside each night before i go to bed to read a small section. I figure reading a small section each night is enough to get me thinking about it and not get myself too confused.
Its a cool book though, dealing with lots of cool ideas including time travel, parallel universes, etc Some of the ideas go right over my head, but i still enjoy reading it.
Ive got so many books that ive started reading. I tend to have more then one book in the state of being read at any particular time. Ranging from psychology, comedy, programming and non fiction.
Books are cool.

So im currently reading Parallel Worlds by Michio Kaku, its an interesting book. Its basically about the current research into string theory and such. It talks about the universe and how it was formed and what exactly it is.
Theres some discussion about time travel and parallel universes and stuff. Its interesting.

So Live have released a new album. Apparently the worldwide realease date was today, but how silly of me to actually think shops in Rockhampton would have it.
I went out and visited Big W and Sanity, but had no idea what i was talking about. The lady at Big W was useless, the girl at Sanity at least attempted to look it up on the computer but her only response was “Nope we dont have it”.
Great… so remind me again why we are meant to buy locally?
So yeah, i went home and downloaded it. Yep, downloaded it, *gasp* call the police… I tried going out to buy it, noone had it. So i figure if i want it on the ‘official’ release date i just have to download it.
Ill buy it online in the next few weeks and get it posted. Either way in the end ill pay for it.
bleh…

The last episode of Taken was on tv the other night. I wathced the first few episodes then missed a few and picked it up a few weeks ago. Ive got a grip on what the story was so it wasnt like i didnt understand or anything.
Anyway, i really enjoyed it. The story was pretty in depth, covering like 3 generations of familes and is based around the Roswell ufo crash. Had some really cool effects and a good sci-fi storyline.
Im tempted to buy the box set of this when it goes on sale as well. Id like to watch it again knowing how it all turned out. I think its one of those shows where you would pick up a lot more wathcing it more then once.

I bought the box set of Band of Brothers from Big W then past week. I watched part of the series when it was on TV a while back but missed some episodes so when Big W had the entire thing for sale for $30 i thought id grab it.
Been watching it here and there since then, and finally finished the alst episode yesterday. Its as good as i remembered and was good to see the parts i missed when it was on tv.
The box set comes with an extra dvd of special features and interviews with some of the actual guys that were depicted in the series. I havnt watch the extras yet but i think it should be really good. Throughout the series they had small interviews with some of the guys at the start of the episodes where they talked about the events.
I like stuff like that, really drives the point home that they are/were actual people. Its still hard to grasp some of of the stuff depicted in the show though and try to comprehend it actually happening.
Im glad i bought it, its something i could easily watch again.

So, last few weeks ive read 2 books.
First was the second book in the Warcraft War of the Ancients trilogy. It followed on well from the first book and was equally as good. Im waiting now for the third and final book to be released. Its really cool how it relates so much to the games, the storyline from the book flows right through all the warcraft games and theres a lot explained in the books so far that i hadnt picked up from the games.
Second book was the Davinci Code by Dan Brown. Flicked through it when my sister was up at easter and thought id grab a copy. Its a really good read as well. I had a hard time putting it down and the storyline was awesome. It has a lot of interesting topics in it and made me think a lot which was good.
So yeah, thats about it. Both books are great and worth reading.

Just ordered the second Warcraft: War of the Ancients book. “The Demon Soul” is the second book in the trilogy which follows on from “The Well of Eternity”.
I really enjoyed the first book, hopefully the second will be just as enjoyable.
Bought it through SeekBooks.com.au. Their site looks kinda dodgy, but its actually very user friendly and easy to get the info you need.
Ill hold my final comments about seekbooks until after i actually get the book (If i actually get it
)
On a side note, i wonder if Thomas ever read the first book copy that i gave him. He hasnt said anything about it so im guessing he hasnt. Should have just kept it myself and sold it

Currently reading/browsing this book. Its pretty interesting and goes into a lot of detail on lowish level unix stuff.
Has a great section on gdb (the debugger) as well, amazing what you can do with that if you know the right commands.
hrmmm, other books im reading in some shape or form include:
* Applescript the definitive guide
* Numbers XLib and X11 programming books
Thats about it. I havnt read a non computer related book in a while. Seems to be something i dont do much anymore. *shrugs*

Thought id give this category a run for a change.
Today i went and got out some dvds to watch while i marked. I got Hidalgo, Open Range and Blink Flight.
Hidalgo was about ‘the greatest long distance rider ever’ or so the back of the case says. Some dude and his horse that go in a long distance race across the dessert. Wasnt a bad flick.
Open Range is the new ‘western’ with Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall in it. Typical western style, strangers in town, trouble brews, it all ends in a shootout, the cowboy gets the girl. It wasnt too bad either.
The alst one, Blink Flight, was a true story about 2 guys who where kidnapped during one of the wars and held captive for almost 5 years! yup! 5 years!, it was pretty good as well. I dont know how accurate it is but some of the stuff they went through seems amazing.
All thress flicks were good marking videos, but i dont think id add any to mo collection.

Rented Wild Orchid on dvd this weekend. I dunno how to put it nicely – so here goes.
This movie is complete and utter crap.
Whats it about? – Well for the life of me i couldnt work that out, the blurb thing on the back says something which kinda sounds interesting, but to be honest its not.
I spent the first 30mins trying to figure out the plot, trying to find some kind of storyline to grab hold of – but no. It seemed to jump all over the place, characters would be talking about thinkgs that didnt make sense and were not mentioned elsewhere.
There is this kid in a red t-shirt that appears throughout the movie – and im yet to see a reason for him even being in it, there just doesnt seem to be any kind of plot.
I could go on and on, but its not worth it. DONT RENT THIS MOVIE.
Its a waste of 1 hour and 50 minutes, and youll feel bad for wasting almost 2 hours of your life.

Wow, i forgot i had this category… hrmmm – books… im still reading the lord of the rings books, bought halfway through them all. Problem is i havnt looked at it in a while and im guessing when i go to start again ill have to read the last few chapters to figure out where im up to…
Also browsing through the Applescript in a nutshell book – havnt actually read much but i flick through it every now and then hoping i get a chance to read it someday.
Same goes for the numerous Cocoa books iv e got, all in various stages of being read.
Thats about it, havnt read any other books really, thats something i dont get much time to do anymore, should make some time to do that – sit and read to myself.
bleh… ok, back to php

So im reading this book i got on sale at BigW, not too bad. I realise im a bad procrastinator… so ive gotta try stopping that.
Nice quotes:
“Inspiration, readiness, and the like, are not necessary feelings for moving ahead and getting a job done. They are artificial impediments to completion.”
This is so true, i make so many ‘im not motivated, im not ready, i dont feel like it” excuses every day.
If the task is set by others and a deadline is involved, procrastination occurs. The intense anxiety involved in facing the task can be overwhelming and can be avoided by delay. As the deadline nears, dread increases, and at some point activity begins. Because so much time has been wasted hiding from a fear of failure, little time is left for a good effort. The job is pulled off at the last minute and does not represent a best effort. You are left then with some sense of failure – which you started out to avoid. You also have a sense of relief. Its over. You’ve scraped by again. Because you have in one sense succeeded, you are very likely to repeat this destructive unfulfilling pattern again”
gotta stop that

From the worst ever Adam Sandler movie – “Punch Drunk Love” comes:
I want to smash your face with a sledge hammer and suck your soul out
In reference to the strong love Adam Sandlers character feels for a girl he has just met.
Adam Sandler must of lsot a bet and being in this movie was his prize – cause god damn its dodgy… stay away from it people… stay away…

Woohoo! a new category!
*sigh* Reality tv makes me laugh. Watched Average Joe tonight, hrmmm a bunch ‘not average’ geeks trying to get close enough to a chick that they can rub up against her… sheesh.
The quote of the show comes from the indian looking guy when he was talking to her. He said something like “I am amazed at the simplicity of your complexity” and i burst out laughing. *sigh* Where will it ever end…
Oh! and before that was the first episode of “the simple life” with Paris hilton and some other chick. That show cracks me up as well. These two chicks have no idea about ‘normal’ life. Never worked a day in their lives and find it hard to do any kind of manual work. I wonder if they realise that a lot of people are laughing more at them then the actual decent looking people they are staying with. *sigh* Silly spoilt bitches…
But yeah, might have to write down a few of the average joe wooing lines and hit melanie with them, i bet she will be impressed
